Building Better Urban Futures
Building Resilient Citizen-Friendly Cities
India’s cities are growing rapidly, but many are becoming harder to live in. Polluted air, flooding, water stress, traffic congestion, poor walkability, mounting waste, disappearing green spaces and fragmented governance have become everyday realities for millions of urban residents.
The problem is not growth.
The problem is growth without sustainability, accountability and long-term planning.
For decades, cities have expanded faster than the systems needed to support them. Infrastructure has often been built in silos, environmental concerns treated as secondary, and citizens left disconnected from decision-making.
The result is a widening gap between development and liveability.
We cannot continue on this path.
The environmental, social and economic costs are already visible, and future generations will inherit cities that are increasingly difficult and expensive to repair.
Sustainable Cities Mission
The Sustainable Cities Mission is a citizen-led platform working to reverse this trend.
By bringing together citizens, experts, institutions, corporates and governments, we aim to create cities that are not only economically successful, but also healthy, resilient and people-friendly:
Breathable – with clean air, water and healthy ecosystems.
Liveable – with safe streets, strong public services and vibrant communities.
Equitable – where growth improves quality of life for all.
